Delves Broughton: Yes, of course. Business needs people who make things go. It cant be run by a lot of cynical, artsy types. Business is serious and needs hard-driving, committed types. But I also think it needs people with perspective, who perceive the true nature of what it is they are doing, people who are capable of taking the right things seriously and possessing a complete sense of their responsibilities. When this is lacking, businesses can become alienating places both for employees and for the rest of society who must suffer the consequences of business excessively blinkered behavior.   MBA Mission: Should HBS have more Arthur Harveys (Note: Harvey is put forth as an incorruptible, anti-capitalist foil)? Delves Broughton: I doubt Arthur would ever have cared to go to HBS. But yes, HBS could certainly use more people who see the way business operates from multiple perspectives, not just that of senior management. What does it mean when big food companies lobby government to loosen organic food regulations? It may be good news for food companies trying to exploit consumer interest in organic. But is it honest? Is it helpful to society? Is this even a decent long term business strategy? Or is it self-defeating? Businesses these days like to talk about listening to multiple stakeholders, but you wonder, do they really give a damn? Men like Harvey bring these issues into their proper perspective. MBA Mission: What more would you like to have gotten out of Harvard Business School? Well, the problem is that business people think that their way of doing things is best way. This message is a pretty strong one at Harvard Business School. When I went to business school, I went to learn about business. I didn’t want to be taught that it is my duty to go out and run the world. I wanted to be taught to run a business, which I think is perfectly worthwhile to do, and I wish they would have just stuck to that. MBA Mission:   When Harbus critiqued your book, the BMW line and the booze luge seemed to really draw their ire. (Note: Delves Broughton tells the story of a student who suggests that many students manipulate financial aid to buy luxury cars and also reveals a hard partying lifestyle via a “booze luge” at a party). Delves Broughton: Well, it’s two pages of a 300 page book… I feel they’re being slightly Orwellian about this and it’s almost like a political campaign where you focus on minutiae to avoid discussing big issues. If you want to make a fuss about the BWW and the booze luge, which they’ve chosen to do, I include those things as part of the experience, which they were. But you know no one wants to talk to me about Arthur, you’re the first person who’s asked me about Arthur Harvey. Or, you know, my discussion of Michal Porter’s 5 horses, [or] how business can be used in government and all these things, which the book is full of. Half of them never bothered to. . .they’ve never been in touch with me. Which, I don’t mind, but they’ve never bothered to engage on these things. They never want to talk about work-life balance, they put out this message that I’m a sort of bitter grad of the school, you know, that I’m full of sour grapes. I’m absolutely not. I very much enjoyed, I’ve given money to the school in the past since graduating. I’m merely trying to do my own thing. I think it’s something they feel very uncomfortable with…. I think that an institution of that power and influence merits discussion and criticism and praise and all these things… MBA Mission: So, HBS focuses too closely on these two sections and possibly shoots the messenger? Delves Broughton: I’ve been a journalist, I know the way these things work… This is the truth: that they like to think it is a book about Harvard Business School, it has Harvard Business School on the cover, you can’t get away from that. But, you know what’s really interesting is when I’m talking to people for whom it’s just a name, they just couldn’t care less about the booze luge and the BMW. What they want to talk about is work-life balance, entrepreneurial living….They want to talk about the big things which really keep you going. How can I make buck and still see the people I love? How can I do something interesting in my life and not drop dead having bored myself to tears so I can pay the rent. Answer: Introduction Chromatography consist of the method called Gel filtration, this method helps to separate the molecules according to the molecular size of them. This process is also sometime referred to as molecular sieving, gel permeation chromatography, and gel exclusion chromatography (6). This method mainly depends on the polymer beads that is the gel which have the controlled pore sizes. The molecules are given access through the pores and spaces of the gel matrix depending on their size (2). The molecules which are small have the ability to penetrate completely through the gel matrix, on the other hand the larger molecules are totally excluded from the beads. The molecules which have an intermediate size can move to a certain fraction of the internal volume of the beads just according to their size (4). So a large molecule possess the ability to move through the column in a lesser volume and so moves faster than the small molecules. Therefore the small molecules will move slow through the colu mn and will be collected after large and intermediate sized molecules (8). Aim and objectives To separate the mixture of three compounds including blue Dextran (a polysaccharide of a high molecular weight with a blue dye linked with it covalently), Haemoglobin (lysed horse blood), and bromophenol blue by the use of gel columns and also the determination of the Ve for each of these compounds. Materials The Sephadex gel Polypropylene chromatography column, Separation of the mixtures around 0.3 mL is to be done in an eppendorf microfuge tube. 5 M NaCl, 20 mM Pi, buffer solution is prepared with a pH 7.4. Eluate collecting tubes. For the procedure of determination of the spectral properties the separation of the components of the mixture was done. Methods On a retort stand the setting of the column was done vertically with a clamp. A flexible tubing piece and a clamp that can be adjusted must be positioned on the outlet so that the effluent flow can be restricted. The Sephadex suspension should be mixed gently but thoroughly in the column with few mL of the buffer solution and it should be 50 percent Sephadex by volume. Then the buffer is allowed to run through the column unless and until the level of the buffer becomes more than the columns one third. More gel can be added if necessary. The column should be equilibrated by running one column volume of the buffer through it. The tubes should be prepared for the collection of the effluent of the column should be done immediately the sample is placed on the column. Then buffer should be permitted to drain down to the topmost point of the gel. It should keep in mind that the top of the gel bed can never be allowed to dry up. At first the sample solution should be given a spin briefly to remove any type of aggregates or insoluble substances and then 0.1mL of the sample should be loaded very carefully on the entire surface of the gel without making any disruption to the column. The column elution should be started very carefully by adding small volume of the buffer when the sample is absorbed onto the bed of the column. When the absorption of the sample on the gel bed is complete then extra level of the buffer being further added to the top of the gel and thus can be increased. In this respect it should be noted that the run rate of the column should not be too high to avoid poor form of resolution. The collection of the eluate in small beakers should be started immediately after the sample has been added on the column. Once there is the presence of the noticeable colour in the eluate, the collection of the 1ml fraction of the eluate in the tubes should be started The collection procedure should be continued until all the three components are eluted. The volumes of all the fraction collected should be measured. Water about 2mL should be given extra to all the fraction and the and the determination of the absorbance was done at suitable wavelength for those three chromophores. An absorbance graph was plotted contrary to the volume of elution (Ve) for the three chromophores each. The Sephadex should not be discarded as it is very costly and placed it in a container provided for recycling. Results The total volume (Vt) of the gel column is given by Vt = Vo + Vi + Vg Where Vo is the volume of the liquid that came out of the gel. This is also known as void volume. Vi is the volume of liquid inside the gel particles. Vg is the volume of the insoluble Sephadex matrix. The dispersal procedure of the material among the external and the internal liquid phases of a Sephadex gel is demarcated as its distribution coefficient (Kd), it is the function of its size of molecule. The value of Kd specifies the portion of internal volume available to the molecules of the specific material (5). The volume present inside the beads that is the molecular species can penetrate is therefore KdVi. For larger molecules which are not able to enter inside the Sephadex particles Kd = 0 and for small molecules which have full access to it, Kd = 1. So the by the time when the larger molecule is totally excluded of the gel it can be assured that the small molecules are already present in the gel and will be excluded afterward in a slow process as they are capable to completely penetrate the gel matrix. The elution volume of a molecule is the whole column volume available to the molecule and is consequently composed of the volume exterior of the gel plus the volume of gel interior space it is able to penetrate. It is represented as Ve. Therefore, Ve = Vo + KdVi It is evident from the table of the result that the void volume for bromophenol blue is 110mL because it is the molecule which has the lowest molecular weight 670 and it will be excluded at the last from the gel because it is able penetrate completely through the matrix of the gel. The Kd given for bromophenol blue is 1. As there is no presence of the compound after the elution of the void volume. So, here Vi is zero. So there will be no presence of the compound after the elution of the void volume. So, here Vi is also zero. Therefore, Ve will be equal to void volume and that will be 76ml so it can be calculated that Ve = Vo + KdVi Or, 76 = 76+ Kd x 0 Or, Kd = 76/76 Or, Kd = 1. So the Kd for the haemoglobin is 1. Conclusion The compounds having larger molecular weight came out fast because they are excluded from the gel as their molecule due to its larger molecule cannot penetrate in the gel matrix as a result the larger molecular weight compounds pass through the column in smaller volume but faster than the intermediate sized molecule and the smaller molecules. On the other hand the smaller molecules gets complete penetration in the matrix of the gel and so passes through the gel very slow but with a larger volume and the intermediate sized molecule get an penetration in the gel matrix to certain fraction only so they pass through the a little faster than the smaller molecules. In Plato’s allegory he talks about prisoners who from childhood were bound to a wall and only capable of seeing shadows cast on a wall of puppets representing humans and animals. â€Å"Then in every way such prisoners would deem reality to be nothing else than the shadows of the artificial objects. †(Plato) In The Matrix Neo is very similar to the prisoner that is in the cave who both eventually finds the truth about the real world. Just as the prisoner, Neo has been living in a cave called the Matrix. This Matrix, like the illusions from the shadows of the uppets in the cave, leaves its prisoners completely ignorant to the fact that the world as they know it is not real. There is another similarity between Plato’s allegory and the Matrix. In Plato’s story the prisoner is assisted by a man who like Morpheus with Neo, helps the prisoner escape and see the world of reality. As these two stories go, Neo and the prisoner are brought to the light of truth and reject the world around them. These characters at first are â€Å"unable to see the realities of which in his former state he had seen shadows† (Plato). These shadows for Neo were the representations of reality that he had believed in. To the prisoner he believed the shadows to be the reality. However a major difference to note between Plato’s allegory of the cave and the Matrix is that in the Matrix, the prisoners are not physically bound while conscious by chains but mentally trapped in an unconscious state of a perceived reality that is pleasant. The cave however paints a dark picture of enslavement to the shadows to which the prisoners viewing the illusions being bound and chained and blinded from the outside world. Also contrasting when the prisoner escapes from the cave he is escaping to that outside world full of light and life from the dark. The outside world of the Matrix however is a post-apocalyptic world where the sun has been blocked out by clouds from war and pollution. To escape from the Matrix is to journey into the dark as opposed to the light. The desolation of the real world around Neo is what leads him to reject that real world around him. In the cave allegory, the liberated prisoner is blinded by the magnificence of the sun and light around him. The prisoner gradually opens his eyes to seeing real animals and humans instead of just the shadows. The beauty of the real world and real objects is at first what leaves the prisoner in question, objection, pain and then astonishment. The Cave allegory suggests that most men would seek to see reality. However in the Matrix there is an example of the opposite. Cypher sets up Morpheus in a deal with Agent Smith in order to be re-installed into the matrix and have his memory of the outside world wiped. To Cypher â€Å"ignorance s bliss† and he would much rather indulge in the illusion created by the Matrix than live in a harsh world. I believe though that the harshness of reality would be sought after as opposed to accepting the status quo or the illusion. We as members of society (majority) wake up every day go to work come home pay the bills spend our earnings. We live in the harshness of reality that is our world. That being said, I feel it is human nature to challenge the status quo and not accept what we have or know. Why do we as Americans thrive for excess? We do because we are not satisfied with the status quo. I believe that the reason most men would want to escape the cave is because of wonderment and a natural state of not being satisfied with what we have either materialistically or even our thirst for knowledge. Out of selfishness we would escape the cave because â€Å"ignorance of bliss† will not satisfy our core needs. Henry Ford wasn’t happy with how cars were produced so he escaped the cave of production standards. Steve Jobs didn’t think we needed a keyboard anymore so he created a tablet and escaped the cave of technology standards. We all are trapped in our own caves and though most of us are too busy or too afraid to take the risk, we all would take the opportunity to escape our caves and see a new truth come to light just as the prisoner did when he first saw the sun. In the film the Matrix one is able to break the logical governing rules of the program. In the cave you are have no such liberties, you are strictly a prisoner to the physical rules of the natural world around you i. . being physically chained to a wall and unable to move your head and body. In the Matrix, you are able to freely move around in this perceived reality and even bend the rules of the physical world which we see with Neo especially at the end of the film when he dodges bullets from Agent Smiths gun. There are also similarities and differences between the Matrix and Descartes. In Descartes writing he focused on doubting senses and the idea that the world perceived around him could all be merely a dream. I perceive so clearly that there exist no certain marks by which the state of waking can ever be distinguished from sleep, that I feel greatly astonished; and in amazement I almost persuade myself that I am now dreaming. †- Descartes In Neo’s world of the Matrix, humans are in a permanent sleep being used as an energy source for the computers who can no longer draw off the suns power. While in a state of sleep they are fed through cables in the back of their head a programmed simulation of a perceptual world. Descartes touches on this same concept in his dream argument regarding his perception of reality. Is he awake or is he dreaming? Descartes bases his notion of not being able to distinguish reality from a dream due to the point that dreams can release the same sensory information as reality and therefore we must doubt that sense. His argument seeks to doubt the perceptions of the world given to us by our senses. It was also believed by him that there was no way of proving whether or not we are in slumber or awake. In the Matrix that is a big difference because the characters are able to distinguish between this dream world created by the matrix and reality. Descartes also talks about a great deceiver who is the one obscuring our views of reality. In the Matrix we could we could compare that deceiver to those agents in the program. These agents at one point place a bug into Neo and he awakes the next day believing he was just dreaming. Another example of deception of the senses from the movie is when Neo was tricked by his perception of the lady in the red dress who turned out to be an agent. Whether we are all tied onto a wall restricted by the boundaries of the bonds which hold us there or merely in a state of permanent comatose, one thing is certain that our senses and perception of reality are always in question. Descartes believes that we should always be in doubt of our senses. Even in the Matrix Neo had the same question just like Plato and Descartes â€Å"What is the Matrix†( The Matrix) is it a cave or is it a dream that feels so real we don’t know we are in it? It is very interesting to see the connections behind the works of these two philosophers in comparison to a Hollywood presentation of the ultimate question, are we deceived by our perception of reality? Descartes went into an interesting point in his writing and I personally believe as he, there is a God who is ultimately good and would not let me be in a permanent deception. Though I am not going to get into this deeply I will make one additional thought in my writing that these sources brought up. If God is the one who frees us from our caves, who gives us the option to take the red or blue pill and can we truly know if we are awake or asleep?

There are about 250 licensed pharmaceutical manufacturers in the country; however, currently a little over 100 companies are in operation.It is highly concentrated as top 20 companies produce 85% of the revenue. According to IMS, a US-based market research firm, the retail market size is estimated to be around BDT 84 billion as on 2011. Bangladesh pharmaceutical companied focus primarily on branded generic final formulations, mostly using imported APIs (Active Pharmaceuticals Ingredient). Branded generics are a category of drugs, including prescription products, that are either novel dosage forms of off-patent products produced by a manufacturer that is not the originator of the olecule, or a molecule copy of an off-patent product with a trade name. About 85% of the drugs sold in Bangladesh are generics and 15% are patented drugs – the structure differs significantly from the international market. Branded generic drugs represent about 25% years. The success of the pharmaceutical industry in Bangladesh can be defined by the Porter Diamond Theory.
